About Jennifer Myka
A Life Woven with Curiosity, Color, and Care
Welcome to my world—where the lives of animals, the pull of story, and the magic of fiber art have always been tangled up together in the most unexpected ways.
I’m Jennifer Myka, and I’ve spent a lifetime chasing connection—between humans and animals, science and spirit, fiber and form. From molecular genetics labs to six small farms filled with sheep, alpacas, and chickens, to the studio where I now work with hand-dyed locks and long threads of meaning, it’s all part of the same tapestry.
Today, I share that journey through fiber art, immersive workshops, consulting, and speaking—guiding others to explore their own stories of resilience, creativity, and delight in the unexpected.
What I Do Today
Fiber Artist & Visual Storyteller
My work begins with raw animal fiber—often from animals I’ve raised or known—selected for its texture, integrity, and potential for transformation. I’m especially drawn to long, lustrous locks that hold their structure—rare among commercial fibers and often discarded or overlooked by mills. These are the fibers I hand-dye, coaxing out unexpected colors and character, while preserving the wild beauty of each lock.
These materials become sculptural fiber pieces, art quilts, and expressive wearable art, each layered with memory and meaning. Every lock carries a story.
Whether I’m creating one-of-a-kind fine art, custom commissions, or show pieces for exhibitions, I use fiber art as a medium to explore form, emotion, and connection to the natural world. It’s a tactile conversation between biology and beauty—anchored in care, curiosity, and color.
My pieces are often bold, sometimes whimsical, and always personal. They live at the intersection of fiber and feeling—where nature becomes art and every strand matters.
Fiber Arts Advocate
My fiber art is inspired by a deep connection to nature, animals, and the beauty of raw materials. Each piece tells a story, weaving together my love for biology, animals, and creativity. From intricate art quilts to three-dimensional fiber sculptures, my art reflects the lessons and experiences that have shaped my life. Stay tuned for my latest creations—exploring the intersections of art, nature, and animal welfare!
Fiber art has been at the heart of my creativity for decades. I offer workshops and resources that take participants on a journey from raw animal fibers to stunning finished projects, all while emphasizing sustainability and respect for the animals that provide these materials.
Consultant for Fiber Farming and Agritourism
With years of experience running successful fiber farms, I help aspiring farmers and agritourism entrepreneurs bring their visions to life. From farm setup to creative projects, I guide clients every step of the way.
My Journey
My journey has taken me from a childhood fascination with nature to earning a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and teaching college biology for nearly three decades. Along the way, I built six farms, cared for countless animals, and created fiber and fabric art that reflects the beauty and complexity of life. Selling my farm marked a significant transition, opening the door to focus on inspiring others through speaking, teaching, and consulting.
What Drives Me
I believe in the power of connection—whether it’s between people, animals, or the natural world. My work is driven by a deep appreciation for the beauty in life’s details, the importance of kindness, and the joy of learning. I aim to share this perspective through everything I do, inspiring others to find their own paths to creativity, resilience, and success.
